Project Neon is closing I-15 Wednesday night.
It’s scheduled to run for all of 6 hours, starting at 11pm and ending at 5am, so overnight hours only. The closure itself is “only” from Spring Mountain to Sahara. and it’s “only” affecting the northbound lanes. The detour is what’s likely be the real head-ache. Northbounders on the 15 are going to be coned off at Flamingo to use the Spring Mountain **west** exit. Even if you’ve driven it before, this has the potential to be a chaotic mess. For the official detour, you’ll have to follow the exit to Spring Mountain west – – but take the right-hand fork in the road to end up on Highland. Follow that up towards Sahara, where you either stay on Highland and end up on eastbound Sahara, or you wiggle to the right and you’re on Western. Follow *that* under Sahara, all the way up to Charleston for that entrance back onto the north 15. Some other things you should know: the on-ramps to the north 15 from Spring Mountain and Flamingo are shutting down Wednesday night, too, starting at 9 and scheduled to stay closed until 6 Thursday morning.
If this is all too much, you can just get off the north 15 at Trop or Flamingo and head either east or west for surface street alternatives, including, but not limited to, Las Vegas Blvd or Maryland Parkway east of the 15, or Valley View and Decatur west of the freeway.
Buckle up, drive carefully and put down that phone!
