LAS VEGAS – Playing the Project Neon numbers game – – with kind of a big deal in the fine print.
First: congrats to the Nevada Dept of Transportation and the hard-working Project Neon crews! For anyone following the progress of the state’s biggest construction project ever, an NDOT press release cleared up what might have sounded confusing. You may have heard earlier reports that Project Neon was 70% complete. So when you were told “50%” completion on Friday, you might have started scratching your head – or wondering who got the math wrong. Turns out that 50% applies to The Main Event part of the *overall* project, which is now 73% finished. Some pretty impressive stats, too:
9 bridges demolished
12 new bridges under construction
new access to southbound 15 from Pinto Lane
2 new overhead freeway message signs
As for that fine print, it could change plans for overnight drivers: I-15 is going to be reduced to 1 lane in both directions from 11 at night until 6 in the morning Monday night and Tuesday night! There might not be any glitches at all, but if you’re afraid of even a minor fender-bender turning the reduced lane situation into a parking lot – put a reminder in your phone or a sticky note on your dashboard to take surface streets instead.
