Keeping up with the every-few-days complete closure of the main highway between Las Vegas and Pahrump.
If this sounds familiar, it should. The Nevada Dept of Transportation is working hard not only on the widening of Highway 160 between the turn-off to Mt Potosi southwest of Las Vegas up past Mountain Springs, they’re also working to make sure drivers know when they’re likely to get stuck in both directions – with wait times of up to two hours.
The video with this story includes a clip of recent blasts, which should give you an idea why they close the highway.
Besides giving more than 24 hours notice through the media and social media, NDOT’s also reaching out to internet users who can’t tell a tweet from a facebook and couldn’t care less about either one. As long as those folks can find NDOT’s website – nevada-d-o-t-dot-com – they’ll see a notice in red across the top of the homepage telling them in advance when the next blast will be. All blasts happen at the same time: around 12:45pm – with the length of the closure depending on the specifics of each blast.
Buckle up, drive carefully – and put down that phone!
