Metro Police investigated a homicide near N. Torrey Pines Drive and W. Smoke Ranch Road.
According to Metro, on Wednesday, around 3:25 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 6400 block of Morley Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman, said to be a senior, dead. Police said the woman had been shot.
Metro said an elderly couple came home from lunch and noticed a random car in their driveway. Investigators say the woman, who is said to be in her 60s, exited her car as two men exited the home. That’s when the men shot and killed her, Metro said.
“It’s an absolutely disturbing call and completely senseless,” said Lt. Ray Spencer, Metro Police.
“Our detectives are gonna work this around the clock until we get these people into custody.”
Metro Police believes the two men were robbing the couple’s home. But, it’s unclear if they took anything.
The woman’s husband, who is confined to his wheelchair, witnessed the shooting and is extremely distraught, police said.
“It’s so sad because he depended on her too, and they loved each other very much,” said Gert Kassalo, friend.
Kassalo identified the woman as Sherri. She says she was so selfless and extremely involved in her church.
“I’m heartbroken,” Kassalo said. “We lost a good friend. There’s nothing else I can say.”
Neighbors believe the suspects left in a white sedan.
