The intersection of Maryland Parkway and St. Louis Avenue, just north of Sahara Avenue, was closed for several hours Wednesday due to flooding caused by a water main break.
Crews are working to make repairs. The break is somewhere in the pipe on St. Louis Avenue between Maryland Parkway and 10th Street. The pipe is believed to be around 50 years old. A combination of age and cold weather may have played a part in the mess. It could take all day to make the repair.
Officers say the water main broke near the intersection and several car crashes in the area appear to be a result of that break. The break happened around 12:30 a.m. The spilled water quickly turned to ice in the sub-freezing temperatures. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.
