An officer with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department fatally shot a knife-wielding naked man on Saturday morning in Jean.
The shooting happened around 9:38 a.m. in the parking lot of the Gold Spike Hotel and Gambling Hall.
The incident began when Metro received reports of a nude adult male in the pool area. Two hotel employees first encountered the man who began chasing them with a knife, according to Metro police.
A Metro officer arrived to find the suspect still armed with a knife in the parking lot. The officer gave the suspect several verbal commands and the suspect did not comply, said investigators.
The officer then fired his low-lethal shotgun which was ineffective. The suspect charged the officer causing the officer to fire his handgun, said police.
The officer struck the suspect multiple times. Emergency responders were already on scene and attempted to save his life, but he died at the scene, according to investigators.
This is Metro’s the second officer involved shooting for 2017. The identity of the officer involved will be released in 48 hours.
