A woman and boy are dead after a tire separated from an SUV and smashed into an oncoming vehicle, investigators said.
The incident happened Saturday around 7:40 p.m. on US 95 near the Charleston Boulevard onramp.
A red Chevy Tahoe was traveling southbound when the left rear tire came off. The tire entered the northbound travel lanes and collided with a gray Honda CRV, according to Nevada Highway Patrol.

Medical responders rushed all three people in the CRV to University Medical Center.
The 24-year-old woman who was in the front passenger and a male juvenile in the rear passenger seat died of their injuries at the hospital, NHP investigators said.
The adult male driver of the CRV is expected to survive.
It is unknown how or why the tire separated from the from the Tahoe.
Investigators with the coroner’s office will release the names of the victims.
