Transgender bar owner speaks out after shooting: “We bend, but we don’t break”

New surveillance video shows the moment a man fired several shots at the Las Vegas Lounge on Karen Avenue.

“It was a mess. I mean, the windows were riddled with bullets. We counted eleven holes,” said Jennifer Hallie, General Manager of the Las Vegas Lounge.

Metro police say a man shot into the bar just after 5 a.m. in the morning on Friday.

“The way he walked up to the window and just started shooting. It is an absolute miracle that nobody was killed because there was no regard for what was happening or who was here,” Hallie said.

Hallie has worked at the Las Vegas Lounge for the past 16 years.

“People are angry and they’re not letting this go,” said Hallie.

The Las Vegas Lounge has been around for 19 years. It’s a staple in the transgender community and Hallie believes the shooting could be a hate crime.

“The way the state of the nation and the world is right now… it’s hard not to think of it that way.” Hallie said. “We bend, but we don’t break.”

Police say they don’t know what the motive behind the shooting was.

One of the showgirls was shot in the leg. Hallie says the bar will hold a fundraiser for her on Saturday morning at 1 a.m.
