Teen suspected of killing woman in front of husband appears in court

A young man suspected of shooting and killing a 60-year-old woman outside her northwest Las Vegas home appeared in court Friday morning.

Metro Police say this was a burglary and the woman was killed in front of her husband.

Eighteen-year-old Kamari Collins is one of the two people suspected in the shooting and burglary that occurred in May.

According to police, Collins and his accomplice were arrested in Palmdale, California a few days later following a lengthy car chase.

Collins appeared solemn  in court. He was appointed a public defender. The teen’s list of charges include first degree murder, attempted murder, burglary, and discharging a gun into a vehicle.

The name of the other teen has not been released but he is 17-years-old.

Police say on May 30, Collins and the other teen ransacked Stan and Sheri Aoyagi’s house on Morely Avenue near Torrey Pines and Smoke Ranch while they were at lunch.

The couple noticed a strange car in their driveway as they were arriving home from lunch. The teens were leaving the house as Sheri was getting out of the car. Police say, that’s when she was shot in the chest.

Sheri’s husband Stan, who has limited mobility, watched as his wife of nearly 20 years died in front of him.

She was a United Airlines flight attendant and lover of animals who volunteered with a rescue group. Collins is expected back in court on July 20.
