The number of reported deaths in Clark County this flu season has been updated to 48, according Jennifer Sizemore with the Southern Nevada Health District.

When flu cases are reported, the outcome of a case may be delayed. The health district’s Office of Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance is working with the district’s Vital Records program to review and update reported flu cases.

There have been 1,291 cases of flu reported so far and 940 people hospitalized. The district says that 42 of the 48 deaths were in people over the age of 50.

Nationally and in Clark County, the flu season peaked in early February with influenza A but beginning in March, influenza B was more commonly reported. There are still cases of flu being reported.

At this time last year, there were 13 flu deaths.
