Today’s Wednesday’s Child will be on her own in another year if no one steps forward to be her adoptive family. Shaleen deserves more than that, and she has so much to give back.
About a year and a half ago, we featured Shaleen doing one of her favorite things — sewing. She’s still interested in fashion.
“I want to just keep doing fashion and go into fashion studies I was thinking about going to California to FIDM but that was too far away so I thought about going to CSN or UNLV.
But on this day, we’re getting a history lesson at the Neon Boneyard. Walking among all the old electronic signs, I realized what a unique individual Shaleen is… Something her foster mom confirms.
“And that’s one of the things I appreciate about Shaleen is that she is her own individual. She doesn’t try to be like anyone else. She accepts her own individuality, and that’s one of the strong characters that I really admire about her as a teenager,” says Deirdre, Shaleen’s foster mother.
For all the years she’s lived without a foundational family, Shaleen has a pretty good attitude about life:
“She is a really happy-go-lucky, she’s very happy, she really loves to talk I mean again there was a time when she really wasn’t say anything just kind of look around like you know I guess most children they need to assess their environment, but… she I mean she’s giving,” adds Deirdre.
Shaleen needs someone she can really count on.
“The right home is just really nurturing, someone that has a lot of patience that can really help guide her properly again she didn’t really get that opportunity and it would be nice for her to have someone who can really take the time out to just really share and let her be a part of their family and really give her that family atmosphere that she just really deserves, and I know she longs for,” claims Deirdre.
“Just one that’s very loving and understanding you know not someone that treat you differently because you are older you know,” says Shaleen.
