Severe thunderstorms move across Las Vegas valley

Strong winds and heavy rain hit the southern part of the Las Vegas valley Monday afternoon.

The storm was packing 40 to 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts, strong enough to knock down some trees. Flights at McCarran International Airport were put on a hold for departures until the winds subsided. The High Roller on the Strip also closed for about 30 minutes.

In some areas, the rain totaled more than a half-inch in less than 30 minutes in some neighborhoods.

The northwestern part of the valley got hit by another storm which also brought strong winds and rain.

There could be more storms throughout the evening.

There is a flood watch in effect until 10 p.m. but that could be extended.
