“Sean Avery Rule” examines goalie and offensive player relationship


The Golden Knights are playing in the Midwest this week and 8 News NOW continues to learn more about the finer points of the NHL in “Ice Breakers.”

The rule examines the “relationship,” if we can call it that, between the goalie and the offensive player, who backs himself right in front of the net. The player gets in the way of the goalie, tries to create a screen, and 10 years ago during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, that “relationship’ went south when Sean Avery decided to turn around and face the goalie when things got messy.
