Two months after the tragedy on the Strip, local runners and walkers helped raise thousands of dollars for the victim of the 1 October shooting.

Nearly 3,000 runners crossed the finish line on Saturday at Craig Ranch Regional Park for the Vegas Strong 5K and one mile.

Event organizers had to close the registration and move to a bigger venue due to the overwhelming number of people who attended.

“We’re such a small community, and we’re known for so many crazy things, but when it comes down to it, we can always band together. I’ve never seen people come so quickly for blood donations and money and supplies and free advice, free legal advice. It’s amazing it’s a beautiful thing. We’re a lucky community,” said Amanda Litt, runner.

The event raised more than $65,000 which will go to the Victim’s Fund.

The organization behind the event, Just Run, plans to make it an annual tradition. Registration for next year’s race will begin next week.

8 News NOW sponsored the run, and Sherry Swensk emceed the festivities.
