As construction moves forward on the new Raiders stadium, the Nevada Department of Transportation is looking ahead at ways to make getting around that area a little easier. One of the projects highlighted was a revamped interchange where the I-15 meets Tropicana.
The plan is to turn it into a diverging diamond interchange which would make getting off the freeway much smoother. Crews would also add HOV ramps on Harmon and Hacidena to move some of the traffic away from Tropicana Avenue.
“Where we looked at the interchange and said we need to make some changes, is from I-15 from the collector roads that merge into I-15 going northbound on Tropicana. It’s kind of a pinch point there, so we realize that we need to fix that kind of stuff,” said Jeff Lerud, project manager at the Department of Transportation.
NDOT is looking at a start date by 2020, but that’s the same year the Raiders are expected to begin playing in the new stadium.
That’s why the RTC has asked that the project be placed on a list of accelerated road improvements for our state.
