The arrest report for a Clark County teacher accused of being very inappropriate with a student was released Monday.
Kweku Turkson, 37, is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a 6th-grade female student. At the time of the incident, Turkson was an 8th grade English teacher at West Prep Academy.
According to an arrest report, the acts against the child were committed at the school. Metro Police were alerted to what was going on after another teacher confiscated a love letter from the student to the teacher during class back on May 23, 2017. The child’s mother was informed of the school’s findings that day.
On Sept. 22, 2017, an officer made contact with the mother of the child again to inform her of how the investigation was going. On Oct. 11, Metro interviewed the victim at her school.
On May 27, 2017, after Turkson was spoken to by LVMPD and school administrators, the student had to sign a “no contact contract,” which means she couldn’t come in contact with the teacher.
At the beginning of the interview the student said that she wrote the letter to Turkson for teacher appreciation day because he had been there for her ever since they met in summer school. The girl was a student in his English class.
She told officers she could talk to him about many issues she faced, including problems with her boyfriends.
When officers asked her had she ever had conversations with Turkson that made her feel uncomfortable, she cried and said yes, the report said.
According to the arrest report, Turkson detailed how he wanted to be with the student in a sexual way. She said he sent her a message on the Notepad app, saying he couldn’t believe that a girl her age, which was 12 years old, could “have a body like that.”
She said he also asked her if she wanted to be with him, but she told him no, the report said.
The student also told Metro Police that she used to grade papers for Turkson after school and one time when one of the other students left the classroom, Turkson placed her on his lap.
Another time, he hugged her and grabbed her butt; he would also try to touch her breast, the report said. Detectives said the student told them that he also asked to kiss her, but she said no, that’s when he placed her hand on his private parts on top of his pants.
Turkson, 37, is charged with three counts of lewdness with a child under 14 and attempt lewdness with a child under 14.
