Fireworks light up sky to celebrate inauguration

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Joe Biden took the oath of office at noon Wednesday to become the 46th president of the United States.

To mark the occasion, a 90-minute prime-time program “Celebrating America” was hosted by Tom Hanks and included performances that represent the rich diversity and extensive talent America offers.

Events were followed by remarks from President Biden and Vice President Harris.

The Celebrating America event featured performances by:

  • Ant Clemons
  • Jon Bon Jovi
  • Foo Fighters
  • John Legend
  • Eva Longoria
  • Demi Lovato
  • Bruce Springsteen
  • Justin Timberlake
  • Kerry Washington

President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden watched the end of the day’s events from a balcony in the White House on Wednesday night. The Bidens’ grandchildren danced and clapped on the balcony.

Fireworks lit up the sky behind the Washington Monument to mark the end of Inauguration Day for President Joe Biden.

Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, watched the fireworks from the steps of the Washington Monument after Harris delivered brief remarks.

While the coronavirus pandemic and security concerns in Washington vastly scaled back inaugural events, organizers created a celebratory atmosphere with live and recorded celebrity performances, ending with singer Katy Perry.
