Police open fire on wanted armed robbery suspect at gas station

News

Police open fire on a man overnight they say was wanted for more than eight armed robberies over the past two weeks.

The incident happened at a gas station in the area of Blue Diamond Road and Valley View Boulevard.

As the suspect stopped to get gas, detectives with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Violators Unit attempted to take him into custody.

At first, the suspect obeyed commands and got onto the ground, but then he jumped up and got back into his vehicle, according to a report by LVMPD.

When the suspect put the car into gear and began to take off, one detective opened fire striking the suspect.

“They were loud, it was like, pop pop pop pop pop pop. At least between 6-8 of them and I ran over here and by that time. This place was swarming and the helicopter had its lights everywhere,” said Jeff Karr, witness.

Medical responders rushed the suspect to University Medical Center where he is expected to survive.

A firearm was found in his vehicle, police said.

This is the 7th officer-involved shooting for LVMPD of 2018. The department will release the identity of the officer involved after 48 hours.
