The shooting was reported at 11:52 a.m. in the 3900 block of North Nellis Boulevard near Las Vegas Boulevard.
Police said, some children under the age of 12 had gone to the apartment with toys to play with one of the children who lives in the apartment where the shooting occurred.
“From the details that we’re receiving that one of those children possibly brought in a handgun and that was the gun that was used,” said Metro Lt. Raymond Spencer.
Five children in the apartment when the shooting occurred in the back bedroom. The 2-year-old was struck by the bullet in the forehead. The mother of the child was in the apartment and ran into the bedroom to help the child. A neighbor also responded and attempted CPR.
Police are looking to interview the children and investigating where the child found the handgun.
“If you have a gun, need to make sure it’s locked and your kids can’t get it cause these are the types of situations that can happen,” Lt. Spencer said.
This is an ongoing investigation.
