The search continues for the man, Metro Police say, shot two co-workers at a company picnic Sunday.
Metro said employees from the Venetian were gathered at Sunset Park around 6 p.m. when the suspected gunman, 42-year-old Anthony Wrobel, opened fire and killed a woman and critically injured a man by the picnic tables under a gazebo.
Sources tell 8 News NOW the suspected gunman killed Mia Banks, Vice President of Gaming Operations at the Venetian and Palazzo hotels and critically injured Hector Rodriguez, the Executive Director of Table Games at the Venetian and Palazzo hotels.
“Everybody was just freaked out,” said Dennis Drake, a witness.
Drake was not part of the Venetian company picnic, but happened to be at a nearby table and witnessed the man begin shooting few feet away from him and hit two people.
“He went boom, that’s the first shot I heard, that’s when I turned around and I heard him do the other two shots.”
Metro Police said Wrobel, a Venetian employee for 14 years, ambushed the company picnic. After walking up to the event, investigators said the disgruntled employee pulled out a gun and targeted a table with hotel executives before running away.
“He didn’t say a word, not one word,” Drake said. “She was right here, and he got her right in the head.
Drake adds the gunman shot Rodriguez in the stomach.
Police said Wrobel ran to the parking lot and left in a black and purple Dodge Charger. The car would be found later at a parking garage at McCarran International Airport.
“He didn’t go screeching out, he just kind of went out,” said Thomas Brady, who was at the park during the shooting.
Metro is calling this an isolated incident of workplace violence.
“It happens these, days. It’s crazy. The world has gone crazy,” said Brady.
