North Las Vegas Police investigated a deadly shooting in a neighborhood near the intersection of W. Carey Avenue and Simmons Street.
Investigators spent several hours at the scene. Police tell 8 News NOW the shooting happened outside, leaving neighbors even more shocked about what happened here in their neighborhood.
“Ah, I don’t know what to think,” neighbor David Fitzgerald said. “Ah, just horrible. It’s just heartbreaking to hear.”
Fitzgerald was not home but lives just a few homes from the crime scene. He says he’s surprised because it’s usually quiet in the area.
A 36-year-old man was found lying in the street suffering from gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital, according to police.
Around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, several neighbors heard yelling and then multiple sounds of gunfire.
“I walk my dog at night you know, and I don’t see anything it’s quiet. “I don’t see nothing, or hear anything, so that’s what’s shocking to me,” Fitzgerald said.
Detectives don’t know why it happened, but police believe the shooter and the victim probably knew each other. They’re asking for help saying even the smallest detail could solve this murder.
“We can go so far with something little and we can piece it together one by one to figure out who that was, why that happened,” North Las Vegas Police officer Eric Leavitt said.
The name of the victim will be released by the Clark County Coroners Office.
