A hiker who disappeared during a hike in Red Rock Canyon Sunday has been found dead, according to Metro Police.
Officers first started searching for the hiker Sunday afternoon just after 4 p.m. when they received a call about the hiker who was overdue to return.
The hiker, whose name wasn’t released, was last seen hiking the Turtlehead Peak Trail. Search and rescue teams searched for the hiker until after 2 a.m. Monday morning and then they called it a night.
The search resumed Monday morning just after 5 a.m., and it went into Monday afternoon.
The missing hiker was later found dead at the bottom of a canyon in the Turtlehead Peak area. Rescuers said the hiker appears to have died from a significant, but accidental fall.
The LVMPD Air Unit assisted in recovering the body, and it was turned over to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
The identity of the deceased hiker, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released later by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
