ONLY ON 8: Sneak peek inside $620M renovations taking place at the Palms

The Palms Resort and Casino are undergoing a $620 million renovation, and the first phase is just about finished.

In an exclusive look, 8 News NOW was able to find out what’s still to come.

The Palms reimagined is the whole idea of the new renovation.  The first phase will officially open on Friday, but there will also be new restaurants, venues, and a brand new casino.

From the outside, the changes are visible to people walking or driving in the area, and crews are working around the clock.

Jon Gray, the manager of the Palms, and the man in charge of all of everything calls it his “passion project.”

“The Palms is really special to me,” Gray said. “I met my wife here over at Simon. We got married here.”

Gray said he worked at the Palms in 2005.

“Coming here was like coming home,” he said.

From the carpet, to the casino tables, the chairs and lighting there has been a complete overhaul of the inside.

“The layout of the Palms still lends itself to that fun energy that we were known for back in the day but a much more elevated design to come of it,”  Gray said.

There’s even a new greeting in the lobby by check-in that reads, “Wish you were here.”

“We’re seeing that already as a pretty Instagrammable moment,” Gray said.

The Palms is trying to appeal to a younger crowd.

Shakala Alvaranga, Reporter:  “This is where the old Ghost Bar used to be right?
Gray: “Yup! So a pretty iconic space, Ghost Bar. We completely renovated that space. We’ll be opening that on Friday as well. It’s now called Apex. When you walk in there, you won’t even know that it was the old Ghost Bar, but it still has that great iconic view that ghost bar was known for.”

The Pearl Theater will also open with a whole new look.

“It’s always been apart of our success, and we’re excited about the calendar moving forward,” Gray said.

Gray says its been a long year — but it was worth it.

“You don’t feel the hours when you’re coming in at 6 a.m. and leaving at 4 a.m. because you just love this place and the people that make this place,” Gray said.
