Could a string of burglaries, carjackings and robberies in the northwest be connected?
“In the first two weeks of 2018, we are seeing a dramatic increase in residential home burglaries.
The worst part about these crimes is the number of guns that are being stolen,” the Northwest Area Command posted on Facebook on January 16.
“It has surprised me because I feel pretty safe. I live across the street from the Northwest Command Center,” said resident Joe Pena.
On January 23, surveillance video caught a man on camera escaping his abductors.
He was on his way to work when two suspects walked up to him with a gun and demanded him to bring them to a nearby bank.
“Things do happen but this is way too much. I’m scared for my employees and safety of my employees to be honest,” said Amit Sahgal, Owner of 24×7 Mini Mart.
On Thursday afternoon, Metro Police released a bloody mug shot of 22-year-old Dilon Hess.
His arrest report details a carjacking that happened one week prior to Tuesday’s incident.
Hess was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and grand larceny auto in that case. Two other people were involved.
As of Thursday night, a slew of other charges had been added to Hess’ record.
Police sources confirm to 8 News NOW Hess was responsible for the carjacking on Tuesday and believe he along with a few others were behind the home burglaries as well.
Hess is expected in court on Monday.
