The City of Henderson will soon welcome a new fire chief. Shaun White will become interim chief of the Henderson Fire Department on Sept. 7. He will be officially sworn in by the city council Sept. 19.
8 News Now spoke exclusively with the new head of the department to find out his plans.
“This is a great fire department,” said Shawn White, new Henderson Fire Chief. “We’re well respected in the region and also nationally to be selected to serve in this position is quite amazing.”
White joined the Henderson Fire Department as a firefighter and paramedic back in 1999. During his time on the squad, he has also served as a captain and battalion chief.
White says he plans to focus on the people as well as protecting their homes. He says he also wants to ensure that Henderson Fire Department remains strong, so he plans to train and mentor firefighters into new leadership roles.
“One of my passions, and a very common passion within this organization is to develop the next generation of fire fighters in this community because we have such an amazing organization, White said.
Once he’s sworn in, white will oversee a staff of 260 employees in the Henderson Fire Department.
