Officials: Nevada’s total population nears 3 million

Officials say the population of the state of Nevada is quickly approaching 3 million.

The Nevada Appeal reports State Demographer Jeff Hardcastle, who produces the population estimates, says Nevada added 33,300 residents to its population last year, bringing the state’s total population, Taxation Director Bill Anderson says, to an estimated 2,986,700.

The majority of that population is in Southern Nevada where an estimated 2,240,200 lived at the close of 2017. In northwest Nevada, including Reno and Carson City, the total population is 614,400.
