Body cameras will soon be coming to the North Las Vegas Police Department.

City council members unanimously approved Wednesday night a body camera system to be worn by officers in the next 60 days.

The agreement with the police department will be for five years and will be contracted with Utility Associates, Inc. The amount is not to exceed $1,530,980.

The 223 Body Worn Cameras will outfit 139 police vehicles, including support equipment, and installation.

The five-year agreement is pursuant to Senate Bill 176, which was passed on April 10, 2017, that mandated uniformed peace officers wear a portable event-recording device while on duty.

The North Las Vegas Police Department will purchase the necessary equipment to outfit officers and vehicles to meet these requirements.
