Mother faces charge in baby’s death

The mother of a 10-month-old infant who died in January is now facing a charge of second-degree murder, a month after the baby’s father was charged.

The baby’s father, Eric Chu, was arrested in Chicago in January and extradited back to Las Vegas to be charged with murder.

Raelene Jemison, 36, was arrested Thursday in connection with the death of her young daughter.

The baby died on Jan. 24 at University Medical Center after suffering life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel said the child’s injuries were the result of battery. It was also noted that the girl’s twin brother had some similar injuries, according to the arrest report.

The family had been the subject of an investigation by the Clark County Department of Family Services after the twin boy had a broken arm, but allegations of neglect could not be substantiated.
