Metro Police say a punch that led to a tourist’s death in downtown Las Vegas last week was “totally unprovoked.”

Detectives arrested 27-year-old James Beach on Sunday. He’s accused of punching Luis Campos in the face as he stood in line outside a club. Campos went unconscious and never recovered. He died Thursday.

At a Monday morning news conference, police thanked the community for helping solve the case. Police released surveillance video of two men leaving the scene of where Campos was hit. Shortly after the video was played on local television stations, police received calls helping identify the men. Beach was arrested. The other man is not a suspect in the case.

Campos’ wife said, she has a big hole in her heart.

“He robbed my husband of a beautiful life that we had an we were building together and my beautiful children of their father who know they are never going to know him,” Julie Campos said. A GoFundMe account has been set up for his children.

Campos leaves behind three older children and two younger ones, that are 1 and 2 years old. He was in Las Vegas for his brother’s wedding.

Beach who is now facing a murder charge has served time in prison for attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon on another case.
