The man killed in a shooting in North Las Vegas Friday night has been identified as 34-year-old Davion Deshawn McKinzie by the Clark County Coroner’s office.

Police say he was found outside of a building with a gunshot wound around 11:15 p.m. at the 2100 block of Carroll Street, near East Lake Mead Boulevard and Civic Center Drive.

Relatives tell 8 New NOW Mckinzie was a very giving person and loving father.

The entire family says they’re still trying to process everything that happened especially since they say he was still breathing when they got to his side.

“I was asleep, and my fiancé woke me up and let me that there was a ruckus going on, “stepfather Edward Bell said. “I come out and I see my stepson on the floor out here, shot. I go out to try and find out what’s going on with his brother, which is my other stepson, reviving him, had him breathing and all.

Medical personnel transported McKinzie to University Medical Center Trauma where he later died from his injuries.

There is no suspect in custody and does not appear to be a random act of violence.

This is the 6th homicide in North Las Vegas this year.
