Man facing murder charge in 3-year-old’s death


The man arrested following the death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter in Pahrump told the deputy from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office that he couldn’t remember what happened.

The child has been identified as Wessenia Camp and the cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Cole Engelson was arrested Saturday night and is facing charges of murder, child abuse with substantial bodily harm and domestic battery.

Medics and a deputies were called to the home for a child not breathing. According to the arrest report, Engelson told the deputies, he was drying off the girl after her shower and she became unresponsive. He said, “I really don’t know what happened. I really don’t.” 

Engelson’s story changed a few times. He also said, she had become limp while still in the shower, the report said.

Engelson did admit to the deputies that he was drinking throughout the day. He said, he had two glasses of vodka and water and was having a bad day.

Deputies noted the girl had multiple bruises and trauma to her body. The girl’s mother told police that Engelson was also possibly on meth and he is an alcoholic, the report said.

Engelson was the only one in the home when the girl stopped breathing.
