LOOK: Aurora spotted from the ISS

NASA Astronaut Christina Koch, who is aboard the International Space Station, tweeted an eye-catching picture of auroras.

“Years ago at the South Pole, I looked up to the aurora for inspiration through the 6-month winter night. Now I know they’re just as awe inspiring from above,” she tweeted.

Auroras are caused when electrically charged particles from the sun strike atoms and molecules in Earth’s atmosphere, giving off light.
