LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas police are looking for a suspect who appeared to lie in wait before shooting a woman returning to her home in a gated southwest valley neighborhood.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Lt. Jason Johansson, a camera captured the moments before a woman was shot in her front yard.

“We see a male who is dressed in all black clothing who is parked across the street who then approaches her and some kind of altercation appears to happen in front of the house and then he returns to the car after the shots are filed,” Johansson said.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan police, the shooting was reported around 9:07 a.m. near the 9800 block of Venus Lake Court, near S. Fort Apache Road and W. Mountains Edge Way.

Lt. Johansson said it’s not known what the fight was about but it’s believed there was a connection between the suspect and the victim.

“It does not appear this is random,” he said.

Police are urging anyone in the area who might have video or witnessed something to contact them.

“If anybody around 9:07 a.m. saw any car, right now we don’t have a color, we’re confirming the make and model right now, but a sedan driving erratically around 9:07 a.m. out in this area there are only so many ways out of this neighborhood,” he said.

The woman, whose identity has not been released by the coroner, was transported to University Medical Trauma where she was pronounced dead, police said.

There is an ongoing investigation.
