LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — North Las Vegas police have arrested 30-year-old Kiahna Hawkins in connection to the murder of her roommate on May 3.

Officers arrived at the Norterra Canyon Apartments, near Losee and Washburn roads, around 11:30 a.m. and located 49-year-old Andre Smith inside of an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Medical personnel arrived and pronounced the man dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates the victim was roommates with the suspect, 30-year-old Kiahna Hawkins. Hawkins alleged she acted in self-defense at the scene but the detectives’ extensive investigation led to the arrest of Hawkins on the charge of murder with a deadly weapon.

She was transported to the Las Vegas City Jail where she was booked on the above charge.
