UPDATE: (4:19 p.m.) The man who was shot by a Metro Police officer Wednesday is identified as Gregory Ganci, according to police sources.
UPDATE: (12:45 p.m.) The man shot by a Metro Police officer was about to be sentenced in court for numerous violent crimes, such as robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping. According to Metro, everything unfolded during the morning hours while an officer was escorting a Clark County Detention Center inmate to Steinberg Diagnostic Center for a routine procedure.
When they were leaving the facility, a pickup truck that does mobile car wash detailing, pulled up to the area and when the driver and passenger got out of the vehicle, the suspect broke free from the officer and jumped into the vehicle in an effort to escape. The suspect backed the truck out and drove onto Maryland Parkway.
“Saw detective cars racing down this way,” said Bernard Lubin, a witness. ”Squad coming here and then another one coming from further south.”
The officer fired three rounds at the suspect, and at one point his three bullets hit the vehicle, and one went through hitting the suspect in the left shoulder.
The suspect continued to drive the truck down Maryland Parkway and began ramming cars at Vegas Valley.
The officer was in full pursuit of the suspect until they got to the downtown area where the suspect ran out of gas. The suspect was taken into custody around Main Street and Carson Avenue.
No other details were released.

ORIGINAL STORY: Metro Police are investigating a shooting involving police in a business parking lot at Vegas Valley Road and Maryland Parkway.
The shooting happened Wednesday morning in the parking lot of the Steinberg Diagnostic Center, but the suspect, who was shot, fled leading police on a chase that ended in downtown Las Vegas, police said.

According to Metro, no officers are injured and the suspect who is in custody was taken to the hospital.
