UNLV has set a tentative timeline to build a bigger student union on campus. Students have the chance to weigh in on some of the drafted proposals for the expansion.
An architect will stop by the university on April 4 and April 5 to answer questions and get feedback.
Currently, UNLV’s student union takes up approximately 135,000 feet on the south side of campus. They’re proposing to take over several parking lots east and south of the current building.
The tentative timeline has construction starting in 2021, and being completed by summer 2023.
The university said these expansion plans go back to about a year ago back when they surveyed 3,000 students. About 80% of those students said the student union is too crowded, and there’s long lines.
With a bigger building, UNLV also plans to add more student ambassador positions.
Students are set to vote on the new building in the fall.
