The Humane Society of the United States is warning against anyone purchasing a pet from a pet store this holiday season.
The agency said a recent undercover investigation at a Petland in Las Vegas captured a sick puppy on video, along with an employee suggesting that they were waiting for the puppy to die.
A bird with a broken wing and a bird with a head injury was also found stored in a back room, the Humane Society said.
According to the Humane Society, most of the dogs in pet stores come from puppy mills. The release sent by the agency said that the puppy mills are “inhumane commercial dog breeding operations that put profits above puppies’ health, often leading to sick puppies and heartbroken consumers.”
