LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper is being praised for his heroic rescue of a little dog found stranded on I-15.
A social media post about the incident has already received thousands of likes and hundreds of shares.
“That’s a good girl. Come here. Come here,” Trooper Chris French can be heard saying on his body-cam footage.
French spotted the dog running on I-15 near Washington Avenue on Wednesday.
“That’s the little doggy voice,” laughed French. “That’s the little doggy rescue voice, you know, that we try to calm it down with.”
Several citizens, him and another trooper spent around 15 minutes trying to save her.
“It didn’t even seem like that long. I was so focused on trying to get the little dog and make sure that traffic was getting through,” said French.
After a few minutes, they were able to safely rescue her. But, not without a bit of trouble.
“I went to grab onto it, and when I grabbed onto it, it didn’t like it. So, it turned around, and it bit me on my finger. It just nipped me a little bit.”
The dog was taken to the Animal Foundation where she is now on a 10-day quarantine.
“The thing that popped in my mind was this dog belongs to somebody. It was well taken care of,” trooper French said. “As long as I could get it without getting hurt, well that was my biggest thing.”
Officials at the Animal Foundation say a possible owner has come forward.
