A Las Vegas valley store clerk has opened up about a robbery that left him beaten and pepper sprayed.

Uttam Kumar Thakur is a clerk at the Vegas Verdes Motel and Market located in the 600 block of North Main Street.  After being beaten and pepper sprayed Thakur says he’s in shock something like this happened to him.

According to Police, on Sunday during broad daylight two men, one Hispanic, one white — between the ages of 18-20, entered the store and produced a small can of pepper spray and began to spray the cashier.

The Hispanic male went behind the counter and repeatedly struck the victim in the head, while the white male took several cartons of cigarettes.

They’re still on the run.

Thakur says he’s been working at his family’s business for seven years, and this horrible incident has him now fearing for his safety.

“They come over here and take the soda and after that, they fight with me,” Thakur said.  “Fight with me and they tried to break my neck broke; my head.”

Customers say Thakur never had any issues with anyone.

“He’s one of the coolest guys,” said Ronald  Hammonds, a frequent customer.  “He never had a problem with nobody; great customer service.”

Hammonds says he usually visits Thakur more than three times a day.

“I feel mad at the fact that they did this to a store that a lot of people out here goes to and they need basically; they trying to help people out here.  A lot of people messing that up,” Hammonds said.

Anyone with information in the robbery/attack is asked to call North Las Vegas Police or CrimeStoppers to remain anonymous.
