LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro Police are investigating a shooting involving officers on the east side of the Las Vegas valley. It happened just after noon near the intersection of Lamb and Carey.

Police received a call of a man walking through a desert area with a knife. Once officers arrived on scene, they found that the man was bleeding from the neck and hands.

According to Metro, Officer Vidal Contreras told the man to drop the knife but he refused and made advances toward the officer. That is when the officer shot the man. Metro Capt. Sasha Larkin says the officer immediately summoned for medical attention.

Medical crews arrived and transported the man to the hospital. He is listed in critical condition.

Police closed intersections on Lamb Boulevard at Cecile Avenue and Carey Avenue. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route.

No officers were injured.

This is Metro’s third officer-involved shooting of 2021.

Officer Contreras, 30, who has been with Metro since 2017. He has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
