Severe storms causes detention basin to overflow in Centennial Hills

Local News

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Thundershowers and hail moved through parts of the valley Monday afternoon.  Severe thunderstorm warnings, along with a flood advisory was issued for the western half of Las Vegas.

Low spots in Centennial Hills saw quite a bit of standing water. Officials say a lot of water tested the drainage system Monday.

North Las Vegas and the City of Las Vegas firefighters say they had reports of people trapped in the wash near 215 and Jones.  Rescuers were at several locations watching and waiting for any signs of people in the water.

The brown water was churning as it approached different tunnels, but with no signs of anyone.  A Las Vegas fire and rescue spokesman says they weren’t able to find anyone in the water and called off the search after about an hour and 15 minutes.
