The search for an elderly woman has a sad ending. The family of Jo Helen James say they are no longer searching for her because she has died.
James’ daughter, La Tasca James, said a funeral home contacted her Wednesday and told her that they had the body of her 85-year-old mother.
The business says James was taken there after she died at a hospital five days before she was reported missing. According to the family, James was out and about alone somewhere when she collapsed.
She was taken to the hospital, but she didn’t have an I.D. on her so that is why family wasn’t contacted.
James was then in the morgue as a Jane Doe.
James who recently turned 85, was last seen Aug. 16 at her apartment off East Flamingo Road.
When the family was trying to get the word out about James’s disappearance, La Tasca told 8 News Now the family was extremely worried, but it wasn’t uncommon for her mother to leave the complex to take walks.
Police say they made a welfare check of James’ apartment, but nothing seemed suspicious at her apartment, except that she was missing.
The cause of James’ death wasn’t released.
