Local News

The 21-year-old mother facing a murder charge in the stabbing death of her 2-year-old son left behind a note saying she intended to take her life as well as her son’s, according to her arrest report.

Christina Moya, 21, remains hospitalized with self-inflicted stab wounds, according to police. Her son was identified as 2-year-old Martin Velaquez.

Police were called to the home near Pebble Road and Pollack Drive on the morning of Feb. 25 when Moya’s cousin became concerned because she had not seen Moya or her child in nearly two days and the bedroom door was locked. Prior to police arriving, family members did enter the room and discover Moya and her son on a bed. The child was dead.

According to the report, Moya admitted to her cousin she was the one who had harmed herself and her son. She also said she did it “because it was her child and that she could.”

The report said that Moya had recently split up with the child’s father and had been suffering depression. The child’s father said Moya felt her medication wasn’t working.
