LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man who pointed his firearm at Metro officers was shot and killed Friday night outside his northwest valley home, police said.

Officers went to the 8400 block of West Shady Shores Circle, north of West Lake Mead Boulevard and east of North Rampart Boulevard, at about 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a man with a firearm outside his residence, according to a news release from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Capt. Carlos Hank of Metro said officers tried to establish a dialogue with the man, but he went into his residence.

“A short time later, he came back out with the weapon and pointed it at the officers,” Hank said. “An officer discharged his firearm, striking the subject.”

Hank said medical personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, Hank said.

The officer involved in the shooting has been identified as Officer Jahmaal Crosby, 27. He has been employed with LVMPD since 2017 and is assigned to the Community Policing Division, Northwest Area Command.

Crosby has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of this incident.

The shooting marked the 11th officer-involved shooting by Metro this years.
