LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two people are dead, and a third is injured following a shooting outside of a home near Eastern Avenue and Desert Inn Road, according to Metro Police.
The shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. when Metro was called to the home because of a “disturbance.” One neighbor reported hearing around six gunshots.
The deceased victims are a man and a woman. Police have identified the man as the person who shot the woman.
Police say the two were arguing inside their car in the 3200 block of Silver Saddle Street when the woman walked up to a home where there were two men in front of the house and asked them to hold her 1-year-old child.
The woman’s argument with the man escalated, and he pulled out a handgun, police said. Metro Police said that’s when one of the men who was standing in front of the house got a rifle from his home and came back outside to try to protect the woman.
“People have a right for self-defense,” Lt. Ray Spencer said. “From what the investigation has determined at this point, that this person acted in self-defense.”
The man with the handgun shot the woman, so the man with the rifle then shot the man with the handgun. However, police said it’s not clear if he killed him or if he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Metro’s waiting on a ballistics report to determine that.
The man with the rifle was also shot. He was transported to Sunrise Hospital but is expected to survive.
The child was not injured.
