LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened Wednesday, March 3 in the southwest valley. The coroner’s office has identified the male victim as Raymond Elias Mejia-Vidal, 45, and the female victim as Yvette Lidia Mejia, 49. The causes of death are still yet to be determined.
LVMPD Homicide Detective Lt. Ray Spencer held a media briefing Wednesday morning to provide the media with preliminary information.
According to police, on March at approximately 7:41 a.m., LVMPD dispatch received a call from a
teenager reporting that his mother and father had been shot at their residence located on Park Street.
According to Lt. Spencer, the teenage son says he went outside of his bedroom and found his mother with a gunshot wound at the top of the stairs in the home. At the bottom of the stairs, he says he found his father also with a gunshot wound.
Responding officers located an unresponsive man and woman inside the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and medical personnel responded and pronounced both subjects deceased at the scene.
The investigation by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicates that the man and woman were married and in an argument before the incident. At some point, the man produced a handgun and shot his wife before shooting himself.
The identification of the deceased and the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office at a later time.
This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
