Local News

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Clark County Coroner identified Jacqwan Rankin, 32, as the man shot and killed following an altercation just east of the MGM Grand on Dec. 13. His death was ruled a homicide, caused by a gunshot wound of the head.

Metro Police say it occurred at 10:30 a.m. in the 4700 block of Deckow Lane, near Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane.

Police say the shooting happened following an altercation in an apartment at that address.

When police responded to the scene, they found Rankin dead from a gunshot wound.

Police say the suspect is a black man in his 30s, and he has been identified, but police released no more details about the man.

After an investigation, it was discovered the suspect was recently released from prison in California. The man moved to Las Vegas to live with his mother in the apartment at the address of the homicide.

The suspect had a friend, Rankin, over at the apartment Sunday morning. The suspect and Rankin then got into an argument in the living room, and during that argument, the suspect allegedly shot and killed him.

The suspect fled the scene westbound on foot. He has not been arrested.

Police say they are not sure what led up to the fight.

If you have any information about the whereabouts of the suspect, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers.
