LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim shot and killed last week in a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood at 25-year-old Caleb J. Carter from Las Vegas.
Nearly a dozen patrol vehicles responded to the 8000 block of Canyon Saddle Street in the area of Durango Drive and Blue Diamond Road after receiving numerous reports of gunfire around 3:33 a.m.
Metro Lt. Ray Spencer said the investigation in in its preliminary stages and he refereed to the scene as “extremely convoluted.”
According to Spencer, the resident was outside of his home when two men in a black Mercedes pulled up to the home and the driver, now identified as Carter, left the car and walked up to the house. Spencer said there was some sore of altercation and Carter pulled out a gun. The resident shot and killed him in the home’s garage.
“At that point the passenger exits the car and there is an exchange of gunfire between the passenger and the resident,” Spencer said. “The passenger fled the scene.”
A man, who is believed to be the passenger, was later taken into custody.
Spencer said he doesn’t believe the shooting is random, but more interviews need to be done to determine if the parties involved know each other and what led up to the shooting.
