North Las Vegas Police are investigating a shooting in a neighborhood near W. Centennial Parkway and N. 5th Street.

According to officers one person was shot in a neighborhood located at Centennial and Goldfield.

“The boy shot that baby three times and ran off,” said LaToya McCoy, resident. “By the time I got to him, all I could do was hold him and pray for him and pray that he didn’t die.”

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 16-year-old boy suffering from an apparent gun shot wound.

One person was taken to the hospital and is said to be in critical condition.

“I hate the violence out in these streets,” McCoy said.  “If I could do something to teach these kids or guide them, I will. It’s ridiculous.”

No suspects are in custody.

“There are violent crimes that happen every day,” said Officer Aaron Patty. “As a law enforcement agency, it’s our job to make sure we are thorough in everything that we do in locating those suspects. One thing that really helps us out when we have cases like this is the help from the public.”

Somerset Academy was on a temporary lockdown due to the shooting. An email was sent to parents. The lockdown was lifted around 3:15 p.m.
