LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Metro police have charged a suspect with murder weeks after a 21-year-old man was found shot inside his car in a northeast valley neighborhood.

Diego Cruz-Gomez, 21, was arrested on unrelated charges the evening of the shooting and later booked on a murder charge.

The shooting happened in the 1200 block of North Christy Lane, near Nellis Boulevard and Washington Avenue, on Thursday at 5:52 p.m.

When officers arrived, they located a white Dodge Charger with an injured man inside, identified as Sergio Calzada. Calzada was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

He was then taken to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives released preliminary details in the investigation and said Calzada was driving over to a friend’s home before the shooting occurred.

Just after Calzada parked his vehicle in front of his friend’s home, another man wearing dark clothing, identified as Cruz-Gomez, was walking across the street and started running towards Calzada inside his vehicle, police stated.

Cruz-Gomez is accused of shooting several rounds into Calzada’s vehicle and then leaving the scene before officers arrived.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
